Dear Oaklanders:
You are invited to join the 2008 Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program (MSJP). Since its inception in 1968, more than 30,000 youth have been positively impacted by Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program. For many young people, the summer job is their first workplace experience. They are exposed to challenges, opportunities, and lessons required to succeed in the business world. Each year, we receive over 1,500 applicants looking for employment. This summer, the City of Oakland will hire 165 youth. Additionally, 500 jobs have been created in the nonprofit sector for the MSJP. We are counting on organizations and individuals like you to help create additional employment opportunities for Oakland’s youth. Please consider partnering with us in building our future workforce.
You can help in the following ways:
- If you know a young person in Oakland who is looking for a summer job, please forward the application to him or her. The deadline is June 10th
- Hire a youth or contribute to create additional opportunities
- Help us spread the word to your network
For more information, you can call our Mayor’s Summer Jobs Program coordinator, Rayna Lett-Bell at (510) 238.3588/ rlett@oaklandnet.com
